Why ESG reporting has reached suppliers

SEBI requires the top 1,000 listed companies by market capitalisation to publish a Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report (BRSR), and the BRSR Core framework brings assurance and value-chain disclosures. Those companies now ask their suppliers for energy, emissions and safety data, so mid-sized manufacturers are being asked for ESG numbers too.

Good reporting starts with a sound inventory. We set that up first, then write the disclosures from it.

What we prepare

  • GHG inventory. Scope 1, 2 and relevant Scope 3 emissions following the GHG Protocol.
  • BRSR. Principle-wise disclosures and the BRSR Core indicators.
  • GRI-based reports. Material topics and disclosures for sustainability reports.
  • Customer questionnaires. Responses to supplier ESG surveys from your buyers.
  • Data systems. Templates, owners and evidence trails so next year is faster.
  • Targets. Reduction targets linked to an actual roadmap.

How a reporting cycle runs

  1. Materiality and boundaryWhat to report and for which sites.
  2. Data collectionTemplates issued to plant and function owners.
  3. CalculationEmissions and indicators calculated and checked.
  4. DraftingDisclosures written and reviewed with management.
  5. Assurance supportEvidence packs for the assurance provider.

Questions clients ask

We are not listed. Do we need ESG reporting?

If you supply listed companies, they will likely ask for your energy, emissions and safety data as part of their value-chain disclosures. A simple inventory now saves a scramble when the questionnaire arrives.

What are Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions?

Scope 1 covers fuels you burn and refrigerant leaks, Scope 2 covers purchased electricity, and Scope 3 covers your value chain, such as purchased goods, logistics and business travel.

Can you help us reduce the emissions we report?

Yes. Our energy audits and net zero roadmaps turn the inventory into an action plan, so the next report shows a reduction.
