What GRIHA is
GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment) is India's national rating system, developed by TERI with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and administered by the GRIHA Council. It is frequently specified on government and public-sector buildings, and many private campuses use it too.
Projects are scored across site planning, energy, water, waste, materials, comfort and social aspects, and receive one to five stars. GRIHA puts weight on measured performance, so the design numbers have to hold up on site.
Which GRIHA fits your project
- GRIHA for new buildings.
- SVAGRIHA for smaller projects with a simpler process.
- GRIHA for Large Developments for townships and campuses.
- GRIHA for Existing Buildings for buildings already in operation.
- GRIHA for Affordable Housing for housing schemes.
What we do on your project
- Variant and target. The right GRIHA version and a realistic star target.
- Design compliance. Envelope, lighting, HVAC and water strategies checked against the criteria.
- Simulations and calculations. Energy, daylight and thermal comfort workings the evaluation needs.
- Site audit readiness. Evidence and site practices in place before each audit visit.
- Final evaluation. Submission and clarifications through to the rating.

Questions clients ask
Is GRIHA mandatory for government buildings?
Many central and state agencies specify a GRIHA rating in their project briefs. Whether it applies to your project depends on the client agency and the tender, so check the scope document; we can read it with you.
What is the difference between GRIHA and SVAGRIHA?
SVAGRIHA is the simplified version for smaller projects, with fewer criteria and a lighter documentation load. Full GRIHA applies above that size.
Can one building have both GRIHA and IGBC ratings?
Yes. Many measures overlap, so a dual rating mostly adds documentation. We plan both sets of credits together so the design serves both.
